The Warsaw Uprising began at 5:00 PM on August 1, 1944, as an armed resistance by the Polish Home Army to liberate Warsaw from Nazi occupation during World War II. Lasting 63 days, it aimed to establish a free Poland, coinciding with the advancing Soviet army. Despite initial successes, the Polish fighters faced overwhelming German forces. The uprising ultimately ended on October 2, 1944, with significant civilian casualties and the destruction of much of the city. The event became a symbol of Polish courage and resistance, but also highlighted the betrayal by the Allies, who offered little support.
