Belzec was a mass killing center, located in eastern Poland near today's border with Ukraine. It was the first killing center to implement Operation Reinhard (three killing centers designed for mass execution of Jews by carbon monoxide). Beginning in March 1942, Jews from ghettos, and various parts of the General Government (German occupied eastern territories), were deported to Belzec, where they were killed shortly after arrival and their bodies buried. Between December 1942 and spring 1943, the bodies of the victims were exhumed and cremated and bones
crushed. The camp was then dismantled, trees were planted and a a farmhouse erected to conceal it's function.
Estimated murdered Jews between 500,000 to 600,000
