Munich is the birthplace of the Nazi party. The Feldherrnhalle ("Field Marshals' Hall") is located at the Odeonsplatz in Munich and is one of the few buildings that wasn't destroyed by allied bombings.
1914 DECLARATION OF WAR
The Feldherrnhalle is where Germany's declaration of war was announced in 1914. Adolf Hitler is seen in the crowd.
1923 BEER HALL PUTSCH
On 9 November 1923, Hitler and the Nazis attempted a coup that ended at the Feldherrnhalle. Four Weimar solders and sixteen Nazis died. Hitler was arrested and charged with treason, spending only 9 months of his 5 year sentence, where he wrote Mein Kampf.
MEMORIAL FOR THE FALLIN NAZI MEMBERS
After Hitler attained power, he and other Nazi officials would reenact the path of the Beer Hall Putsch. SS gatherings would be held at the Feldherrnhalle to honor the fallen Nazis.

THE GOLDEN PATH
Anyone walking by the memorial for the fallen Nazi members were required to give the Nazi salute. Those who wished to avoid giving the Nazi salute would walk on the street behind the Feldherrnhalle. This was later called the "Golden Path".
